Big bridge

There’s 3 channels in Denmark that separate the North Sea from the Baltic. That’s why Denmark was so rich back in the day...shipping taxes! The rule was... they could buy your cargo for whatever you claimed the value was for tax purposes. So, if you tried to low-ball to pay less tax...well, you suddenly got honest.

Now we’re going from the Zealand island to the Funen island over the really big bridge. It takes about 15 minutes to drive across! It has a 1 mile freespan, the towers are 900 feet tall! Since this is where the North (salty) sea meets the Baltic (much less salty), we smell the salt water for the first time.

 Next stop... Iceland, then Greenland!

2/3 way through there’s a natural island which is a bird sanctuary. I’d need a rest stop if I was flying in this much wind, too! It was SO windy that when the big bus went behind one of the towers for a second, we swerved quite noticeably.

Dori, this one’s for you, from the North Sea!

Now we’re on a ferry from Swendborg to Aero for 2 nights of vacation!
