The easy way to see Copenhagen

Hey...look who joined us!

Since Tomte jumped ship, we’ve been lonely. Bereft, really. Then, as we were walking along Nyhaven, we heard something in one of the shoo windows. Kind of a clinking sound. We looked, and saw...

There, in the corner, viking horns clinking against the glass, was our new addition, just waiting to join us! So, once the store opened, we broke him out! We’re trying to understand his name, as we
agree with our guide who described the Danish language as an abuse of the larynx! He’s either Sven, Olaf, or Bjorn...we can’t quite understand him. Stay tuned on that one.
So, to give our feet a break, we jump on a river cruise. I have no idea what we’re paying for things here. I Sweden it was easy...250 SEK was $25. Here, it’s not as friendly, it’s something like 6.7 crowns to the dollar. And, sometimes places add a fee, sometimes they don’t . So, we hand out our Visa and hope for the best. Whatever...we’re on vacation!
The cruise takes off right in front of our hotel. It’s the yellow building left of the big boat, next to the brick one on the corner!

Here’s the beautiful Opera house. It cost 500 million USD to build, Maersk (Danish shipping company, the largest container shipping container company in the world) paid for it. It’s absolutely stunning!

Here is Copenhagen’s latest gem...the world’s most efficient waste-fired power plant! Trash is burned at 99% efficiency for energy to produce hot water and electricity for Copenhagen. Scrubbers clean the exhaust till all that is left is ash and water. The ash then is repurposed as road material. All this...and more! And it that isn’t enough, see that sloped roof? It hosts one of the world’s longest artificial ski slopes in the winter, and the world’s tallest artificial climbing wall! Look up Amager Bakke. It’s amazing! I want one in Portland...or ANYWHERE in the US!

This is the Queen’s ship. It’s so beautiful! If I had this, I’d libe on it. Oh...wait, my home already floats!😀

Here’s Queen Margrethe II’s palace. The middle, with the dome, is her home. The mansion on the right is where her son and heir to the throne lives. The flag is flying on that lart, so we know he’s home.

When we arrived yesterday, the weather was disconcertingly cool. Today, I dressed warm...and liw and behold...it’s t-shirt weather! I don’t want to jinx us, but...every single vacation has been like this. Like a red carpet unrolls before us. Still, if ever there was a vacation for our luck to run out, it’d be this one. With Norway and Iceland to go...well, I’m enjoying now! Others are, too!

This city reminds me of Amstedam. Canals...boats...bikes, repeat.

Our Savior’s Church. I vote this the most beutiful spire in town. One can (if one is brave and doesn’t get vertigo and if one isn’t afraid of heights...and if one’s feet are up for it) climb up this external spiral staircase. The stairs get narrower as you go up. We didn’t, because we couldn’t get there before it closed😞

Here’s the public library, across the harbor from a really cool  foot bridge with what looks like 4 ship masts. I truly love this city of design!

Here again is the library! Wow! Tammy, if you ever get a job here (note, to be a Danish citizen, you’ll have to learn Danish, pass a really hard citizen test, make at least $45,000 USD, and renounce your American citizenship) I’ll come visit you....LOTS!

Now it’s 9:30 pm, and we’re pooped. George got some take out Thai food, and we’re watching subtitled TV. Our guide Asa said she enhanced the  English she took through high school by watching  subtitled TV. Think we can learn Danish?
