Oslo...lesson learned!

Such a delightful sunny day we had! After a short rest at our hotel (20,467 steps so far), we went back out for a stroll. No particular goal in mind, since all the museums are closed.
I’ll throw in a sight from yesterday...the law school building, separate from the rest of the university, is just down the street from the Royal Palace (which is to the left, at the top of those stairs).

So, back to tonight, and my lesson. First, a little background.
When we arrived here in Oslo on the overnight ferry, the weather was terrific. By the time we got off and went into the building. It was pouring. Then, by the time we gathered our group and I got out my raincoat (which I started packing in my shoulder-bag the day before), it had stopped.

So, back to our stroll tonight. We bought some slipper socks George had seen yesterday, then went wandering. We saw a beautiful church, which appeared closed. As we were looking, a young girl noticed and told us we could go around the back and enter a door if we were quiet. We found it, and entered what turned out to be a choir recording an absolutely beautiful song. It sounded like it only can in one of these old amazing churches. We had to be so quiet I couldn’t even rustle around to get a picture...but it was an amazing surprise!
Well...we had noticed the clouds getting darker. Since we were only going to be out for a bit and it was so nice, I opted FOR THE FIRST TIME, to go out without my shoulder bag containing my raincoat. I even jeep a couple of spare rain ponchos in there! Well... you guessed it! Suddenly, it srarted raining these really big drops! We hunkered under a hotel overhang for awhile with another unprepared guy, then when it started to let up, made a run for it. A block later, it cut loose. What can we do, but dunk into a restaurant for dessert?!

Eventually, the rain became a little more vertical (for a time, it was somewhat horizontal), so we made a run for it. Three blocks later, we ducked into our hotel fairly wet, but laughing.
So, lesson learned. In Norway, the weather changes VERY fast, and VERY completely! We always need the following at the ready:
Sunglasses
Layers of clothing, from t-shirt to sweater
Light down jacket with hood
Raincoat and or umbrella
And a backpack or shoulder bag to put it all in!

The good news...my new down lacket is somewhat water resistant!
