Here. we get to see a real Stave Church! The ‘staves’ are the 4 central vertical wooden posts that support the building. The Vikings knew how to use wood!
It’s one of 28 remaining in the country out of the thousands that used to exist. This one was originally built in 1158, but added onto later. They used dragons to chase away evil spirits that they believed attacked the church during services. Even with Christianity, the Norse hedged their bets by appeasing their Norse Gods..Thor, Odin, Freia, etc.
The ceiling...reminiscent of an upside down Viking ship!
And bere is our VERY cool (in all senses...12 celsius) mountain home. It’s a restored/modernized folk style farm.
